The knowledge of Knowing

My 2 year old constantly finds the smallest object on the ground and puts it straight into her mouth. She believes that nothing will harm her. Bear in mind she has a narrow airway from being born at 25 weeks and having a breathing tube down her throat for 5 months of her life. As her parents we know the dangers of her putting things in her mouth and try to stop her each time. Sometimes it works other times it doesn’t, and she ends up throwing up.

Now she knows the consequence of her actions. She still picks up everything on the floor, but she knows what to put in her mouth and what to bring over to me. She has a bit of knowledge but does not know that by putting things in her mouth she can choke on it, not just throw up but end up in the hospital with a closed airway.

You always hear knowledge is power, but do you understand what it means? When you know something, you make better choices, your level of success increases in every situation

Knowledge is fact. Jesus died on the cross. God parted the red sea. Jesus rose on the third day. The sun is hot, fire burns, gravity exists, and people die. Those are all facts. Once you know this fact you change your approach. You do not touch fire because you know its burns; you do not jump off the roof thinking you can fly because you know gravity will bring you down.

Knowing is an internal feeling a person has about a certain piece of information. It is a personal acknowledgment that a certain statement is fact. I know that if I jump off a window, I will break some bones in my body because I am not a bird so I can’t fly.

Now do you know who you are? Daniel 11:32 says

“…but those people who know their God will be strong and take action”
Those who know their God; knowing - an understanding of who God is and what he is capable of will make you act. Do you know that by knowing who God is you inadvertently know who you are? Take a few seconds and think about that statement.

A rich kid knows who his father is and knows what his father is capable of, so when he acts arrogantly, he knows who the backer is. Do we act in the full knowledge of who God is? Do we live our lives knowing that we are loved, healed, favored, rich, beautiful, empowered with the Holy Spirit because we have a father who is the King of Kings, who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, who says that not one hair on our head will fall to the ground without him knowing about it.

Remember Simba in the Lion king! He goes on an adventure with Nala and they get cornered by hyenas. Remember he is a cub but believes since he is a lion everyone must obey him - knowledge. Ha children! He roars in his little voice and the hyenas start making fun of him and then he tries to roar again but this time they hear a louder, thunderous voice and they are shaken, then they look and see Mufasa moving closer and they start to give Simba some more respect. Even though Simba didn’t ask for Mufasa’s help he still got it. It took almost the whole movie for Simba to finally know who he was. At the end when Scar was yelling and asking who are you? He still didn’t know.

Take some time today and write out who you are based on God’s word. Pronounce them each day over your life and you will see your behavior change and you will begin to behave like the child of the king you are.
