Why You Should Reduce the Number of Voices You are Listening To

Blog Single

Today I want to speak directly to you who is reading this blog post and may be feeling burdened and weary, feeling lost or hopeless. I am speaking to you directly from what God spoke to me and I wrote down in my journal. This is for you!

In this time that I took off from listening to other voices I am realizing that we shouldn't have to labor tirelessly to enter into God's rest. That is why in His word it says that come to me all you who are weary and heavy labored, and I will give you rest (see Matthew 11:28). I am also learning that in this Kingdom what you believe is what works for you because God looks at the heart and at our motives. So, I ask you, what do you believe? What are your beliefs about God and His ability or love for you? What are your beliefs about God’s faithfulness in keeping to His promises about you? What are you believing that God can or will do for you? Whatever you believe is what will work for you. Move away from unbelief today and trust God to do that which He has promised you.

Listening to so many different voices will make you feel like you are doing something wrong, that you are not laboring hard enough or praying enough or reading your Bible enough or fasting enough. It makes you feel like you're not doing enough to please God which then drives you into even more hard labor, into worrisome works, and into despair and tiredness and frustration because you then feel like you can never measure up to what God wants. You feel like you can’t please Him or meet up to His standards and requirements. That is why He says for us to come into his rest and to pick up His yoke because His burden is light, and His yoke is easy.

God, Did I Hear You Right?

When God first asked me to reduce the number of voices that I listen to, I didn’t really take it seriously because I thought maybe that was just the enemy. Because I thought, How will God tell me to stop listening to sermons and biblical teachings or prophetic words by other? God, this cannot possibly be You, I thought. However, I noticed that my spirit was not at rest, but I kept fighting it. I also noticed I was now experiencing so much anxiety and unrest. Months later, while having a conversation with a friend, she mentioned the same thing that God has spoken to me – “reduce the number of voices you are listening to.” That was the confirmation that I needed to know that the voice I heard was the voice of God and not of the enemy.

I immediately obeyed and in the days that followed, I could now see that He was doing it for my good. He could see that I was getting into the rabbit hole of "not enough." And He could see that it was beginning to exhaust me, weary me, frustrate me, and bring me into a place of despair, causing me to want to just give up.

You see friend, God is gentle, and humble, and patient, merciful and kind, gracious and loving, compassionate, and forgiving. God wants us to find a balance in our lives. He does not want us to be in the extremes of life whether good or bad. Balance in Christ brings peace and joy and contentment.

Thus Says the Lord

Hear the word that God is speaking to you today: Come into My rest My daughter. Come into My rest My son. Labor tirelessly no more. Just continue this journey with Me, in My Presence, seeking Me more and more. You don't have to labor for things. I am Your Father, Your source and I'll give those things to you, just stay in My Presence. Relax and enjoy your life with Me. Rest. Delight in Me and I'll delight in you. Rest My daughter. Rest My son. And watch Me make you. Labor no more, fret no more, worry no more. I've got you. You need not worry.

Reduce Voices

One More Thing

Another thing that I noticed is that God took away the desire and desperation I had towards listening to a specific servant of God whom I felt had so much revelation that I absolutely needed. I knew I had become dependent on his preaching and teachings, but that itself was not pleasing to God because God will not allow anything to take His place in our lives. He will not allow anything to become an idol to us no matter what the thing may be. So, He, God, will take those desires away when He sees we have made it an idol.

God wants to speak directly to us. His word should be our primary source of hearing from Him and when others speak, it should be a confirmation of what God has already spoken to your heart. He wants you to go to Him before you run to other people. He wants to be first place. The Holy Spirit wants to be your primary teacher. That is why He asks us to reduce the number of voices we listen to because listening to too many voices can also cause confusion and misunderstanding of what God is or has spoken to us. One voice may say a thing, and another may say something directly opposite, leaving you confused as to what God had already spoken to you. And we know that God is not an author of confusion.

I was glad that God intervened and helped me break free from the bombarding voices I opened myself to. Since I reduced the number of voices I listen to, I have been more at peace and have entered into God’s rest. The anxiety I once had almost on a regular basis has now disappeared. So, friend, I am encouraging you today to reduce the number of voices you listen to so you can begin to hear God clearly for yourself.
